BIOGRAPHY

 

Professor Giovanni Schiuma, PhD is Scientific Director of the Centre for Value Management at the Università della Basilicata in Italy, and Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for Business Performance, Cranfield School of Management. He is also Adjunct Professor at Tampere University of Technology, Finland. Giovanni's research, training and consulting focus on linking knowledge assets and organization behavior to performance management and organization value creation. His primary research interests focus around the following areas: knowledge asset and intellectual capital management, performance management systems, innovation and change management, organizational behavior and learning, industrial district and local development. More recently Giovanni is leading the development of a new management research stream about the use of Arts in Management to support organisational value creation dynamics and business performance.
Giovanni is Co-Editor in Chief of the internationally recognised Measuring Business Excellence (Emeral publisher).


Giovanni is a Professor of Innovation Management at the University of Basilicata. He received his Degree in Engineering summa cum laude from University of Basilicata and the Ph.D. in Business Management from University of Tor Vergata in Rome. He is currently teaching "Strategic Intellectual Capital Management" and "Innovation and Project Management" at the MBA program as well as at the post graduate courses in Engineering at Università of Basilicata. He also teaches "Performance Management Systems" in the first year of the Ph.D. program at the University of San Marino and at the Polytechnic of Bari. Giovanni is also strongly involved in Executive Education running seminars for public and private organisations and regularly offers seminars in Europe and Middle East. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 publications, including books, articles, research reports and white papers on a range of research topics particularly embracing Knowledge Asset and Intellectual Capital Management, Performance Measurement and Management, Italian Industrial Districts and Energetic Organisation.


Giovanni is recognized as a passionate and influential thinker on knowledge assets and intellectual capital management, and he is committed to develop theoretical and practical frameworks, approaches and tools to drive both public and private organizations towards the improvement of their value creation dynamics by understanding, exploiting, measuring and managing knowledge and intangible assets. Among others, his current research interest is focused on organisational behaviour and particularly on how complex organisations can be transformed into intelligent organisations by leading and managing energy and emotions. He works with local Italian Governments on the assessment of intellectual capital dimensions underpinning local development as well as he is actively engaged in applied research and has worked in research projects involving national and international organizations, such as Natuzzi, Ducati, Soges Group, Arts&Business, Accenture, Shell, Lloyds TSB, McDonald's, and among others.


He is a regular speaker at conferences and has teaching and consultancy experience across Europe on Knowledge and Innovation Management as well as on Performance Measurement and Management. He is specialized particularly in the design, implementation and review of knowledge asset management initiatives and performance measurement systems designed to drive innovative change and learning dynamics in organizations and to support company’s performance improvement and value creation.


In his spare time, he enjoys skiing, bicycling and travelling. He lives in Matera, Basilicata in the South Italy, where he gets sun, food and the passionate familiar atmosphere which nurture his knowledge, energy and creativity.
